Program Volunteers
Program Volunteers Are Crucial to Every Splore Program - We Couldn't Survive Without You!
Splore has been providing accessible outdoor adventures to people with disabilities for over 30 years, but we simply couldn't continue to provide such wonderful recreation opportunities without the generous support of dozens of volunteers every year in all of our programs. Volunteers not only help to keep activities affordable to our participants, but they also assist in making outdoor venues more accessible to individuals who may not ordinarily be able to experience the awe-inspiring areas of Utah's exciting outback. Program Volunteers have the opportunity to provide many kinds of service, as well as companionship to all of our participants.
Volunteers with our RockOn and Rock Climbing programs help with equipment setup, checking for rope defects and unsafe gear, provide support to instructors in the proper use of climbing gear, assist in teaching proper climbing techniques, provide belay for climbers, keep participants engaged and focused on lessons, and help to ensure safety at all times. Volunteers in our Canoeing program help with equipment preparation, transportation needs, assist clients with transfers in and out of canoes, act as canoe guides, and help with lesson instructions and paddle techniques. Volunteers in our Rafting program provide added support for overnight trips, possibly help with driving needs, assist participants with personal and camping equipment, help with camp needs, including firelines, tent setup and take down, food preparation and other kitchen needs, assist with mobility of participants, help with transfers in and out of rafts, and provide meaningful interaction and friendship to participants. Volunteers on overnight trips may also have the option to assist disabled participants as a caregiver. To learn more about this special volunteer opportunity, please click on the Care Providers link.
Volunteers for Splore's Winter Programs help participants with proper use of skies and snowshoes, sit skies and ski walkers, and any other adaptive gear, as well as being a ski companion. On overnight yurt and dogsledding trips, volunteers might also assist with transportation, meal preparation, and other kinds of support as needed. Most of all, program volunteers help participants feel welcome, secure, and included in all aspects of an activity to the best of their abilities. Volunteers assist participants in improving the quality of their lives and allow individuals with disabilities new opportunities to experience incredible new adventures! As with other overnight trips, there may also be volunteer caregiver opportunities. Be a friend, be safe, and have fun!
Program Volunteer Information
Splore needs Program Volunteers on a LOT of our activities, especially for larger trips to assist the Splore staff with all aspects of providing a successful and enjoyable experience for our participants. And what better excuse do you have to skip work, play outside, and have an awesome time while helping others in need. Giving and sharing has no bounds to the goodness and satisfaction that you receive in return!
To view available programs and volunteer opportunities, please refer to our Calendar link to the left. "Volunteers Needed" will be indicated on all activities that have a definite need, but Volunteers are welcome and greatly appreciated on most activities and trips!
