Volunteer Training

To sign up for any of the trainings we offer:

  1. Fill out a volunteer application
  2. Complete a background check and use the Third Party Release Form if you want it mailed to Splore directly.
  3. Once your background check is complete, you can sign up for training.

Rock On! Volunteer Orientation & Training

Rock On! Volunteers mentor youth with disabilities and their siblings in learning how to rock climb. Every new Rock On! volunteer must attend a Rock On! training, even if they have attended other Splore trainings. The two hour orientation will cover the following: Splore’s history and mission, ability awareness, coaching youth with disabilities, and belay certification.

Volunteer Guide Orientation                

Summer 2017 training for Salt Lake City volunteers is new and improved this year! Every volunteer is asked to attend a Volunteer Orientation on the evening of May 11th at 6pm. This orientation is for volunteers who are looking to become Volunteer Guides for the Salt Lake Program. The two hour orientation will the following: Splore’s mission and history, ability awareness, and roles and responsibilities.

 

 

Volunteer Climbing Guide Training

This training is for those who would like to volunteer as a rock climbing guide. This training will cover the ins and outs of our equipment, how to run a climbing trip and manage risk during the activity. There is a $30 fee to cover training costs- you can sign up for both Climbing and Canoeing Guide training for $40.

Volunteer Canoeing Guide Training

This training is for those who would like to volunteer with Splore as a Canoeing Guide. This training will cover the ins and outs of our equipment, how to run a canoeing trip and manage risk during the activity. There is a $30 fee to cover training costs- you can sign up for both Climbing and Canoeing Guide training for $40.                                                            

May 14th | 8:30am-5pm | Splore Office

Lunch will be provided on both days and Splore Volunteers will receive a Splore staff shirt when they sign up to volunteer on a trip.

Volunteer River Guide Training

Ever wanted to learn how to row through thundering rapids, but your life hasn’t allowed you to drop everything and live on the river for a summer? Interested in volunteering for Splore’s rafting program this year? If you answered yes to either question than our Volunteer River Guide Training is just what you need!

This fee will cover the cost of the permit, shuttle, food throughout the training, equipment, and a Splore t-shirt. This training will be a requirement for all new river volunteers. Space is limited! Contact Becky Van Horsen at becky@splore.org for more info.

Winter Volunteer Guide Orientation  

Winter Volunteer Guides assist with cross country ski and snowshoe trips. Every volunteer is asked to attend Orientation Training. This orientation is for volunteers who are looking to become Volunteer Guides for the Salt Lake’s Winter Program. The two hour orientation will cover the following: Splore’s history and mission, ability awareness, and volunteer guide roles.

January 12th | 6:00pm to 9:00pm | Splore Office 

Winter Skills Training

This skills training will cover the ins and outs of our ski and snowshoe equipment, how to run winter trips, and manage risk during the activity. Cost of this training is $40.
