Adaptive Climbing Gear

Rock climbing is one of our most popular activities. And while rock climbing is generally very safe, we take strides to ensure our guests receive the proper instruction and adaptive gear when needed.

1: The Chest Harness

What is it? The chest harness is used for rock climbing in the outdoors or at indoor gyms. The harness has shoulder loops that are put on like a jacket and strapped at the center of the chest with a carabineer and is used to help keep a climber upright during a climb.

Who is it for? It comes in handy for individuals who may have difficulty staying upright and also keeps them vertical in event of a fall. It is good for individuals with low tone, low balance or those who may have difficulty staying upright. Anyone who uses the rock climbing handle-ascender such as individuals who are paraplegic, amputees of the lower limbs, incomplete quadriplegics and persons with limited lower limb should use this as well.

Details: The harness provides additional support and also helps distribute the weight (which gives the user’s abs a break particularly if they are using the rock climbing handle).

2: Handle-Ascender

What is it? The rock climbing handle ascender is used for rock climbing on mostly walls with an overhang. This rock climbing handle allows user to pull themselves up the wall by sliding up a static rope and locking itself on the rope when user pulls the handle down slightly. It is a self-breaking descender and works great! Basically, it works as a pull-up bar and allows user to do pull ups one by one as they ascend the wall. It’s a great device that keeps climber aligned with the direction of the pull for maximum efficiency.

Who is it for? This piece of equipment works great for people that are paraplegic, amputees of the lower limbs, incomplete quadriplegics and persons with limited lower limb function.

Details: The ability to pull oneself up the wall requires tons of strength in the arms and upper torso. This is recommended for athletics and individuals with strong endurance.
