Morgan was born in New Jersey and raised in Utah and has loved the outdoors his whole life. Some of the things he enjoys doing in his spare time is: rock climbing, canoeing, camping and hiking with his dog. Morgan has been working with Splore for the last five years starting out as a summer volunteer and has worked his way up to an assistant guide.
He has had many people tell him that he couldn’t do something due to grades or struggles throughout his life. He credits Splore for helping him break that barrier to show people that with a little help, the right mind set and a little “splove” (Splore love), anything is possible. Morgan is looking forward to another awesome season!
I was raised in the mountains of Santa Cruz California where I grew up with 40 acres of property to romp round on. Rolling in the mud, skating the streets, fort building, and bicycle riding filled most of my time as a child. I loved to be outside where I could be wild and free!
I have been professionally guiding for six seasons. I spent two summers on the Rogue river, two seasons on the American, one season on the Trinity river, and in 2014, I worked in Utah on the Green and the Yampa. It was guiding on the Green last summer in July that I ran into a beautiful group of people getting ready to go rafting: Splore. My heart was touched and my spirit fired by the encounter that day.
I volunteered with Splore in 2014 and got to do a very special trip. This is a trip that I will never forget. A life changing, perspective blowing trip! I am more than excited and proud to work for SPLORE this summer. Bring on the good life!
This is Daniel’s third season rafting with Splore and he is excited to take on another new challenge. Daniel will soon graduate Utah Valley University with his Bachelors degree in Exercise Science and Outdoor Recreation Management. When he isn’t rafting during the summer he spends much of his time around various athletics, hockey in particular. Daniel is still working on growing that mustache in his picture, however the older he gets the less likely he believes growing one so beautiful is in the cards.
Melissa grew up running around Woodstock, Georgia and the surrounding suburbs of Atlanta. She earned a degree in Outdoor Leadership & a minor in Psychology from Young Harris College. Living in the southern Appalachian mountains allowed her to fall in love with kayaking, rock climbing, and everything outdoors. After working at a few summer camps and as an outdoor education instructor all over the beautiful southeast, she fell in love with adaptive recreation and currently spends her winters as an adaptive ski instructor.
When she’s not on the river you can most likely find her playing music, dancing, cooking and eating her favorite southern foods, biking, and being goofy. This is her second season with Splore and is excited to be back for another awesome summer!
Angie grew up in Massachusetts but is now very familiar with the flight paths to Utah. In 2014, she interned at Splore in Moab, and the experience changed her life. Although she is graduating from Northeastern University with an Environmental Science degree, she wants to pursue the field of adaptive sports and recreation and possibly environmental education.
Angie is beyond thrilled to be rejoining the Splore team and hopes to broaden her administrative skills while also spending some quality time on the river. In her spare time, you’ll either find her exploring the outdoors, playing sports, running, reading, or stuffing her face with desserts.
My name is Katy Johnson and I reign from the mountainous region of southern Illinois. I currently attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale and am finishing my undergraduate degree in Recreation with specializations in Therapeutic and Outdoor Recreation.
I spend most of my free time traveling, hiking, backpacking, canoeing, and rock climbing with friends. I like to say I can play ukulele, but my skills are mediocre at best. I’ve spent my last 6 summers working as a summer camp counselor and am excited to change things up and be a part of the Splore team! I look forward to spending my days in Moab doing what I love!
Lorin DeSpirito is from Southern Indiana and grew up spending countless days on Lake Monroe and exploring the Hoosier National Forest. At Indiana University she discovered her passion to become an outdoor educator and white water enthusiast through the university outdoor adventure program. She is working on completing a BS in Outdoor Recreation, Parks, and Human Ecology.
Lorin has spent the last 3 years working on the Nantahala River in North Carolina and 1 summer on the Clear Creek River in Colorado. She is very excited to spend her first summer after college rafting and learning about non-profit management with her new crew at Splore. Lorin loves to cook for friends, currently her favorite meal is mini eggplant pizzas! In her spare time, you can find Lorin at the local park slacklining, eating ice cream, and hiking through her new home in the Moab Canyonlands.
