Adventure Programs

Splore Offers Exciting, Accessible and Affordable Outdoor Recreation Programs All Year Round!

For more than 30 years, Splore has been a leader and innovator in providing accessible outdoor adventures for groups and individuals with disabilities and special needs. Using the magnificent Utah wilderness as a backdrop, more than 40,000 clients have participated in our programs. These experiences are a catalyst, providing greater individual independence, well being and self esteem.

Program Notes

Splore's primary Activities include Canoeing, River Rafting, and Rock Climbing during the summer season, and Nordic Skiing/Snowshoeing and overnight Yurt Trips during the winter season. Plus, Custom Trips can be arranged to accomodate the special needs of your particular group.

Splore also offers several specialized Programs, including Open Adventure Club, Excels Academy, Experience Your Abilities, and RockOn! that provide unique, inclusive experiences within our community.

Outdoor adventures for people with disabilities

Our Participants

Splore has been providing accessible and affordable outdoor recreation and education opportunities to Individuals, Families, Youth Groups, Volunteers, and local and national Agencies since 1977!

Splore offers individual canoeing, climbing, and nordic ski and snowshoeing day lessons, plus "Open Enrollment" river rafting, canoeing, and yurt overnight trips for individuals with disabilities, as well as custom programming can be arranged for a unique and memorable experience!

All Splore programs are customized to the individual abilities of our clients. Splore's intimate program settings provides individual staff interaction allowing maximum potential for each client. Splore offers the opportunity for individuals with special needs to accomplish and experience things not seemingly possible and to apply these successes to their everyday lives. Plus, volunteer care providers are arranged, as needed, to ensure a positive and rewarding experience for participants and volunteers.

Splore prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, disability, or financial ability. Many Splore participants live on low or fixed incomes. On average, Splore reduces the average cost of services by approximately 80%. If you would like to apply for additional financial assistance, please go to the Fees page and open or save the scholarship application. Completed applications can be emailed, faxed, or mailed to our office.

Families

What does Splore offer to Parents/Guardians?

Splore offers fun, relaxing and meaningful experiences for parents, families and friends. Participating in a Splore activity with your child provides an opportunity for quality family time, strengthening family relationships and providing a special form of parental involvement. Parents and siblings are also given the chance to build a natural support group with other families to learn new ideas, share stories and make new friends, plus many other unique and lasting benefits.

Splore welcomes and encourages friends of disabled clients to participate on all of our activities and multi-day trips. These unique outdoor recreation and education experiences strengthen friendships and provide a fun recreational experience for groups of friends. Friends pay the same rate for trips as the disabled participant, and friends may also attend activities as care-providers.

Youth Groups

Splore works with various youth groups within the Salt Lake community!

Splore reaches thousands of school children and introduces them to the outdoors - canoeing, horseback riding, hiking, climbing, dutch oven cooking, cross-country skiing/snow shoeing, indoor/outdoor rock-climbing, cooperative games, teambuilding initiatives, urban adventures, and other recreation activities.

Splore programs provide youth the opportunity to participate in adventurous recreation and education activities that also provide the opportunity to interact with children with and without disabilities, and the ability to learn new skills and obtain increased self-confidence and self-esteem.

Volunteers

Volunteers are an essential part of the Splore experience.

Splore volunteers come from every walk in life - male and female, young and young at heart. Splore volunteers possess the following characteristics: A love of outdoor recreation, and a willingness to share outdoor recreational experiences with people of all abilities.

Each year Splore volunteers provide more than 2400 hours of service, representing an in-kind donation of more than $20,000. Volunteers help in many different capacities, and work with Splore's dedicated staff to provide program assistance, personal care, transportation, and fundraising support.

Splore volunteers assist in providing a better quality of life for people with disabilities and special needs. Splore staff members will provide volunteers with the training necessary to help support the needs of our participants. We welcome organizations and agencies to participate in Splore programs. Splore works with numerous public institutions, government agencies, private organizations and healthcare professionals to provide life-enhancing experiences to children and adults of all abilities.
