SESSION II OF ROCK ON! STARTS August 7th, 2008

Rock On! is an Eight-week rock climbing program for kids within the Autism Spectrum Disorder

Splore's Rock On! Program is an indoor rock climbing program that includes specialized attention for each child with ASD from staff and volunteers who are dedicated to provide quality care.

The Rock On! Program is designed to help children:

  • -Develop positive recreation skills
  • -Increase muscle tone and motor skills
  • -Develop trust and relationship building skills
  • -Increase self-esteem and empowerment
  • -Promote independence, health and wellness
  • -Increase knowledge and access to recreation activities
  • -And, most importantly, to HAVE FUN!!!

Who: For children between the ages of 5-12 with ASD
What: 8 week rock climbing program
When: Tuesday's session will begin on October 28th and runs through December 15th
Group 1 meets from 4:00-5:30pm
Group 2 meets from 6:00-7:30pm
Wednesday's session will begin on October 29th and runs through December 16th
Group 3 meets from 4:00-5:30pm
Group 4 meets from 6:00-7:30pm
Where: The first few weeks will take place at the Dimple Dell Recreation Center and the last couple weeks will take place at the Momentum Climbing Gym, both in Sandy.
Cost: $43 for the 8-week program

Challenge yourself with Splore rock climbing!
The unique challenges presented by the rock climbing experience are an excellent opportunity to increase physical fitness, enhance communication skills and build trust. Rock climbing also creates opportunities to overcome real or perceived fears and increases confidence.

Splore provides half-day, full-day and multi-day climbing trips at Lisa Falls in Little Cottonwood Canyon and at Dogwood, Storm Mountain and the Slips climbing area in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Splore customizes every climbing program to the unique needs of our participants. Splore provides all the necessary safety equipment and trained personnel on every climbing activity, as well as professional instruction for every climber. During each lesson you will have the opportunity to develop your climbing skills and abilities.

Splore's trained guides will provide instruction on proper equipment, techniques and safety.

SPLORE is a Utah based non-profit organization that specializes in providing life-changing outdoor recreation experiences to children and adults with disabilities and special needs. SPLORE ran its first accessible rafting program during the summer of 1977 and for more than 30 years, has served over 30,000 individuals with disabilities as well as their family members, friends & care providers.
