Why this Program?
EYAP addresses the lack of participation by youth in the outdoors, and the rise in obesity among youth. According to the Outdoor Foundation, 90% of adults who are active in the outdoors were exposed to outdoor activities between the ages of 5 and 18. To this point, EYAP targets k-12 youth.
Program Format
EYAP works with schools and youth organizations to identify groups of students in need of services. Working with these schools, Splore develops a series of recreational activities that include inclusive games, initiatives, leave-no-trace activities and nature interpretation for students with and without disabilities.
Trips take place on a wide array of public and private land including US Forest Service land in Millcreek, Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood Canyons as well as BLM-managed waterways such as the Fisher Towers Section of the Colorado River. Splore also partners with local rock climbing gyms, ski resorts and nonprofits to provide a variety of venue options.
