OVERVIEW
Splore provides outdoor adventures throughout the state of Utah for people with disabilities and disadvantages. Splore’s Salt Lake programs include outdoor/indoor rock climbing, canoeing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and overnight trips. The Program Associate’s time is spent in both the office and the field with the opportunity to learn skills related to planning, implementation and evaluating programs as well as the opportunity to learn guiding skills such as group facilitation, group management and technical skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Trip Leadership
• Co-lead trips, facilitate large and small groups, teach technical skills, and ensure risk management
• Assist in the development and execution of guide and volunteer trainings

Equipment & Vehicles
• Organize, maintain, and repair equipment
• Drive 15 passenger vans, large trucks and trailers

Administration
• Assist in scheduling & booking trips
• Assist with trip planning and evaluation
• Recruit and manage volunteers and clients
• Assist with outreach and special events
• Give and receive feedback to co-workers and other staff

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current Wilderness First Aid (through WMI, WMA, or SOLO) and CPR certifications (minimum)
• Prior experience leading groups in an outdoor setting
• Able to commit to a 4 month position
• Experience working with people with disabilities (preferred)
• Willingness to commit to a regular weekly schedule
• Outgoing personality and ability to have fun with a diverse group of people
• Willingness to work on both trips and office projects
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and people skills
• Physical ability to participate in recreation activities for 5+ hours, including loading and unloading gear
• Ability to work some Saturdays and weekends
SALARY/BENEFITS:
• Experience: Interns will gain valuable experience working as an outdoor professional, and hands on experience working with people with disabilities or disadvantages.
• Stipend: Full time interns will receive $500 per month.
• Housing: Housing is NOT provided.

Winter Internship dates:
Start date: January  2016
End date: March  2016
Summer Internship dates:
Start date: April 2015
End date: August  2015
