River Program Associate
DESCRIPTION:
Splore’s Whitewater Rafting program, based out of Moab, UT, offers one to six day whitewater rafting
trips for people with disabilities or disadvantages and their families.
The Program Associate position is an entry level supervisory position. The goal of this position is to assist
the Program Manager in creating amazing, life-changing whitewater rafting trips for our participants
while also providing support and leadership for our staff. This position, like the Program Manager
position, takes place in our program office as well as in the field.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Program Manager in:
- Communicating with clients, agencies and volunteers regarding important trip logistics.
- Organizing the program office to ensure a productive and clean work environment.
- Tracking staff and volunteer certifications.
- Completing trip and permit documentation in a timely manner.
- Purchasing food and equipment.
- Trip planning and logistics.
Other Responsibilities:
- Guiding trips on class I-IV whitewater when necessary.
- Providing shuttle support.
- Acting as role-model, leader and training for Trip Leaders, Assistant Trip Leaders and Interns.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to start no later than April 21, 2014 and work until mid September.
- Current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certifications.
- Swift Water Rescue Training (preferred)
- Current driver’s license with clean driving record.
- No less than 2 years experience guiding class III-IV whitewater.
- Current Utah State Whitewater Guide License (Captain). This can be acquired after hire.
- 25 years of age or older (preferred)
- Be able to work long hours.
- Be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs. Desire to work with people with disabilities (prior experience is helpful, but not required).
- Outgoing personality and ability to have fun with a diverse group of people.
- Ability to lead groups in an outdoor setting.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and people skills.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
- Salary: The Program Associate will receive a monthly salary ranging from $1300 to $1600 DOE.
- Housing and Partial Board: Housing is provided.
- Pro Deals: The Program Associate will have the opportunity to take part in pro-deals with many brand name outdoor equipment manufacturers.
